The Taste of Rain

Sleep eludes me
on nights as these -
Restless,
in a moon lit heat

And a longing for rain
that runs so deep -
My monsoon memories
taste bitter sweet.

We are reeling from heat, feeling just the same, in Tucson!

Beautiful. "monsoon longing." I can't ease the longing, but I could share some of our present rain with you, even though it is not the same.

Lovely poem, thanks for sharing.

My preference for short poems is a strong one, one that was happily rewarded today, Shaista, with your words.

PS: I miss the rain, too.

Love this. We're dying for rain here and your words are just so delicate and full of longing.

Beautiful longing, but the nights can be long. Wishing you rain, and more sweet than bitter.

I used to dislike the rain because it made me feel stinted and this melancholy was all over me. I still think so but now I enjoy the inspiration, the sense of freedom. Makes me wanna travel too. Greece isn't rainy in summer. Loved the poem. Made me miss walking in the rain.

Summer - that is exactly what I miss... in Bombay, friends go for rain walks and then go for coffee :)
I miss so much about the Indian rains... especially the powerful scents of the earth, and even the man made scents of petrol mixed among other unromantic things!

You have beautifully descriptive words in your writing. I have been here once before and admire your gift and for living with Lupus. I finally convinced my daughter who also has Lupus,to set up a site but she is a busy young woman so we will see. I have told her what wonderful things you post here. Will vist again.
