REFLECTION ON THE SOURCE

It unnerves me
the face in the glass,
that is sometimes me
and sometimes not.

I am unbalanced
by this perfume,
that is sometimes you
and sometimes not.

The heat
stretches out the thread -
in the rain,
it nestles closer;

All around me
the web glistens,
sometimes real
and sometimes not.

I remember the time I looked in the mirror and it was my grandma's face looking back. I mean, I do look like my grandma, but that time, her face was super-imposed over mine. Unnerving, a bit. But then I gave my head a shake, and I was back.

Sometimes the image reflecting back at me has so much pain, so much depression, so much lament and loss that it lQQks like liquid in a pond that's been disturbed.
There's many times, though, through intended choice that I like what I see because of all the souls around me.

Choice keeps me vital and content.Hopefully my choice will remain with me through my 'autumn' years.

.. through a looking glass, we may never know what is really there.

Yes. It is how we see, isn't it? Sometimes this way, and sometimes another.

I hope you are well, beautiful you.

I like the duality in your poem and such an interesting photo too. My teenaged daughter recently freaked out when she got a passport photo and saw how much she looks like me now.

Sarah, that's so funny!! Yes, I keep being told how much I look like my mother now... but it is a compliment, as no doubt it is for your daughter too xx
