THE LAST DAY

So this is morning,
this grey wetness?

The Christmas lights
stay on all night
and the clocks
tick in the new year.

The willow looks ancient
this morning
Each leaf paid for in full;
Spring seems a long way
from calling
these weeping brown strings
her home.

Will the world look different
tomorrow?
Will the earth be greener?
Will love be truer?
Will I find my way
better,
       tomorrow?

Lovely lovely poem, Shaista. I am sure you will "find your way better" in the new year--you find it so beautifully, always. Thank you, and all good things in 2014!

Yes. For both of us, my friend. I started off writing a poem about a drooping leafless willow too this morning, but didnt post it, odd........

Hello, friend. I wanted to stop by and thank you for being a part of my blog in 2013. You have been a blessing to me. For the coming year, I have a few wishes for you.

May 2014 bring you much joy.
May we all have peace in our homes,
laughter by our firesides,
time spent with family,
and contentment in our hearts.
Be well, my friend.

dear Shaista,
i usually follow in silence
maybe i feel shy
impressed by your talent
but i wanted today to stop longer and wish you a beautiful year
filled with poetry and joy.
Your "last day" poem is a jewel.

I sure do hope that the world gets better, that I get better... Hope is an eternal medicine. And as long as we all have it, and use it for the better, there is no doubt in my mind that we'll all be better. Wish you a great new year!
