My tacky heart
Beats too fast -
A Plaything
For my rib cage -
I could give it
To You, if You asked
But You
Never do -
***
Love refuses me Nothing.
Every nook
And cranny Fulfilled;
Love refuses me Nothing -
I have only to ask,
And it is Your Will -
That I Be Satisfied.
***
What more can I ask, Beloved?
What more can I say?
For You have heard
every Word -
and shown me
every Way -

The poets over at dverse suggested we write in the style of Emily Dickinson for today's poetry prompt. So I have… but I also feel the need to post a real Emily D poem, one of my favourites -
You cannot put a Fire out -
A Thing that can ignite
Can go, itself, without a Fan -
upon the slowest Night -
You cannot fold a Flood -
And put it in a Drawer -
Because the Winds would find it out -
And tell your Cedar Floor -
(poem 530, c. 1862)
Beats too fast -
A Plaything
For my rib cage -
I could give it
To You, if You asked
But You
Never do -
***
Love refuses me Nothing.
Every nook
And cranny Fulfilled;
Love refuses me Nothing -
I have only to ask,
And it is Your Will -
That I Be Satisfied.

Lovely poems that you posted--very much like Emily would write. And I really enjoyed the one of hers that you posted--I was not familiar with it. Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteVictoria, thank you so much for your comment. And for the great compliment! I really enjoyed this task.
DeleteGood work here. For something that seems so easy, it is a deceptive style and you did a super write. The poem you posted is one of my favorites of hers.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! It is, as you say, an incredibly deceptive style. So it was an excellent dverse challenge.
DeleteYou've managed well to capture some elements of the style of Emily Dickinson!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary - I think she was a very clever poet. Deceptively simple as Spencer mentioned.
DeleteA neat series you wrote! I like the third one best.
ReplyDeletea beautiful write of restrained emotion in Dickinson style...

You do a wonderful Emily, my friend. I especially like "Love refuses me nothing - every nook and cranny fulfilled." Your blog banner photo is spectacular. I love seeing you up there!
ReplyDeleteBravo! I especially loved,
